About

Safarnama

Every step, a story.

Safarnama is an old Persian and Urdu word for a travelogue: the written record of a journey. That is what this app keeps for you.

It takes the movement you already do and maps it onto real ground, the actual roads between the monuments of an Indian city. You walk, run, ride or hike, outdoors or on a trainer, and your distance and the metres you climb carry you forward from one monument to the next. Reach one and its history opens, along with a short reflection tied to the road you're on.

There is no countdown and no deadline. Safarnama reads your own rhythm, distance and climb per day, and simply tells you roughly when you'll arrive. Move when you can.

Where you can walk

All 11 trails are live, across 57 routes: the Fort & Palace Trail through Rajasthan, the Empire Trail from Delhi to Varanasi, the Himalayan hill towns, the temple towns of the south, the coastline, the backwaters of Kerala, the Ancient Heartland of Madhya Pradesh, a Cultural Trail from Kolkata to Guwahati, the Sahyadri Forts Trail up six hill forts of Maharashtra, the Buddhist Circuit through Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and the Gujarat Heritage Trail from Ahmedabad to Dwarka. See every trail.

How it works

Who makes it

Safarnama is made by Still Moving, an independent project about feeling better through small, steady steps. Read why it was built.

Between routes, the Still Moving Library has short, personal reads on movement, food, a calmer mind and everyday habits.
