The landmark story
Lalbagh, the 'red garden', was laid out in Bengaluru by Hyder Ali in 1760 under the Sultanate of Mysore. It introduced many ornamental and useful plants to the region, has a glass house dating from 1890, and still holds two flower shows a year, for Republic Day and Independence Day.
