Champaner: A sultan's city below a sacred hill
The Champaner Safarnama is a 6.4 km route across 3 stops, from Jami Masjid to Kalika Mata Temple, Pavagadh, part of the Gujarat Heritage Trail. See the whole trail.
Jami Masjid

The Jami Masjid near Champaner's east gate was built by Sultan Mahmud Begada and is one of the most notable monuments of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park. Its carvings reuse motifs from earlier temples: suns, pots and vines, and lotuses.
Helical Stepwell

Champaner's Helical Stepwell, from around the 16th century, spirals down in brick and stone-paved steps. It is one of the ornamented water structures of the archaeological park.
Kalika Mata Temple, Pavagadh

The Kalika Mata Temple on top of Pavagadh Hill, dating from the 10th or 11th century, is the oldest temple in the area and draws pilgrims all year. Its central image is Kalika Mata, flanked by two other goddesses.
